I am proud to witness that the second year of CKY Hackathon has been successfully delivered. This year we are very grateful to have even more supports from parents, who are from the STEM and business professional background, to be the mentors, keynote speaker, workshop leader and judges. Students were challenged for the novelty, pitching skills, commerical values of their designs, teamwork, engineering techniques etc. All ten teams from junior secondary showed enormous passion and energy to power through these two days for almost 36 hours.

The theme of the Hackathon this year was Healthcare. We believe that not only the students learned much more about programming and business pitching, they also realised the diversity of health issues, such as depression, limited medical resources, etc.

One of the workshops introduced artificial intelligence (A.I.) to all the participants. We are very impressed by how fast these young students could pick up the new concepts, skills and apply it immediately and meaningfully.

CKY Hackathon does not just benefit the participants. Our executive team, which was formed by a group of IB students mainly, helped administer the event. While these IB students could take the opportunity to develop their organisational and communicative skills, they also had a chance to work with the professional mentors, provide support to the younger students and lead a team reflection session. They might fulfill their CAS experience with this too.
Lastly, despite the valuable time spent these two days, some parent volunteers, who may have a child in primary, as well expressed that they now get to understand the teenagers better, such as their emotional needs, the culture, the way they communicate with peers, etc.
I once again would like express my gratitude to CKY school, our parents, my colleagues, the executive team and the participants. Looking forward to seeing you next year!
