Some student projects that I supervised -- they might not be perfect and successful, but always memorable and a great episode of learning journey to us. And I believe these experiences are the one get them to soar high in the future.
Bus Vacant Seat Detection System v1
Double-decker bus is a kind of iconic transporation in Hong Kong. Accidents happened when passengers realised there was no seat on the upper deck, then tried to walk down. This device utilised ultrasonic sensors and pressure plates to detect if the seat is taken. A signal would be sent to Arduino for counting.
Sustainable Hillside Community
Community architectural rebuild project focusing on sustainability, with referenced to Vertical Forest in Milan, Marina Bay Sands in Singapore for the green design. Integration of ancient and modern technology -- revised Persian windcatcher, wind turbine and solar panels to improve the energy efficiency.

A nursing home more than just a place for the elderly to live, but to enjoy the harmonious environment supported by the Tulou style of building structure, bamboo materials for the naturalistic and sustainability.
The Emotions Light Bulb House
What would the house of your dreams look like? Imagination is a borderless universe, but nowadays people seem to be trapped inside a capsule. This VR project, created with Google Block and VR technology, has five colored branches and houses which represents emotions inspired by the movie Inside Out. The glass layer of the lightbulb represents protection against the negativity from the world.
Music Holics
Two musical instruments were innovated to perform a song called The Journey together. The Micro:bit Glove was built with tactile switches, amplifier and (apparently) Micro:bit board to act as a digital piano. The Water Cycle integrated recycle materials, 3D print technology and a water pump to produce a bass-like sound.
De-Desertification Bit
A low-cost IoT prototype device to monitor the forest region. It utilised several sensors including temperature probe, soil moisture sensor, humidity sensor and water level sensor to report extreme weather situations like flooding and forest fire via radio and internet using Thingspeak and IFTTT.
Guardian of the Elephant
A prototype device to identify the motion of the elephants and emit loud bee sound to keep them off. Bee sound was studied to be effective against elephants. This can avoid the elephants from intruding the farm and the conflicts.
Make a Movement Out of the Norm
Environment enrichment design for the green sea turtle using recycle materials and 3D print technology. It encourages the green sea turtles to live without pattern swimming behavior.
Swappy
A second hand book trading platform which aims to facilitate the trading between the students within the same school.
